Bought these off Prime Day to take to South Padre Island and use for close up shots of seagulls and shorebirds on the beach and from the beach to the surface of the waves. My husband and I are fairly serious bird watchers and own numerous binoculars and spotting scopes with a slightly higher end and higher magnification. I didn't really think of them as ultra-legal looks, just an affordable backup pair for the beach. We spent about half an hour hanging out, making friends with seagulls and taking photos with our phones. The more I used these little binoculars, the more I liked them - they felt good in my hand (I love the rubberized coating!), had excellent picture quality from edge to edge, small but roomy. My (type 1 diabetic) husband seemed happy as he sat on his sun lounger at the edge of the surf, alternately falling asleep and enjoying the scenery. But as the low waves surrounded him, his sun lounger sank deeper and deeper into the sand, and I realized he was doing nothing to get out. That's when I realized his blood sugar had dropped and he was unresponsive. I had to get him out of the water by pulling his sun lounger out of the sand, packing up all our stuff and getting him something to eat or calling 911 asap. In melee, I dropped the binoculars on the edge of the beach surfing, and moreover, when I managed to grab him, they (like my husband and I) were completely covered in sand and soaked. I shook off my binoculars but had more important things to do, get my husband out of his karst hole and get a load of gear, including our two cell phones, heavy sunbeds and wet towels to carry. Luckily a nearby woman came to our rescue and helped me pick it up and go to the stairs and shower on the beach. Her friend gave him crackers and to my surprise he recovered enough to get out of harm's way. When we got into the shower, I accidentally washed away the binoculars along with everything else. I thought they were ruined forever. I brought him food and glucose and to this day he doesn't remember anything like it never happened. The same goes for these binoculars! Once they were dry and I brushed off the last bit of sand, they were as good as new - no fogging, no damaged focus wheel or gears, no scratched lenses. Although I would sacrifice them for my husband's emergency medical care I think What a great little pair of sturdy, useful, WATERPROOF binoculars. 5 stars, easy!
