Don't be stingy - buy what's best for your shrimp

I keep Neocaridina shrimp, also known as red cherry. I found out too late that the water in my well has very low GH and very high KH, which is not good for these critters. My shrimp died slowly and few babies survived. I bought this material and within a few weeks I started increasing the GH of my aquarium. Now, a few months later, I rarely see dead people and the population seems to be increasing. Knock on wood! If you're in a similar situation, this seems to have worked for me: I did a once-a-week change of a gallon of remineralized reverse osmosis water. After removing a gallon of water from the aquarium, I added pint at a time of remineralized water throughout the day. I've read that shrimp are very sensitive to changes in water parameters and didn't want to shock them. I now do a water change every two weeks using this method. I add ordinary water to the tank as the minerals are left after evaporating. I measure the powder as follows - a TDS meter is required. I read that my target TDS for cherry shrimp would be around 180. So I slowly added the powder to a gallon of water until my TDS stick read 180, then checked the GH/KH to make sure I was hitting my goal. Now I just put some powder in a bucket of reverse osmosis water, measure the TDS and then add more powder until I reach my goal. If you have a sensitive scale, you can determine the exact amount of powder needed to reach your target TDS. I've found that sometimes the powder doesn't fully dissolve right away, allowing the TDS to creep in a little after an hour or so. Hope this makes sense and hope someone finds this useful! TL/DR: works well
