I almost threw away my favorite printer and bought a new one. My old Epson CX3800 printer was printing strangely. Sometimes the images were very blue, sometimes yellow. I've tried changing ink cartridges and cleaning the heads (now I know that's absolutely WRONG). Finally, he stopped printing magenta and yellow altogether. The printhead was completely clogged. I searched the internet and found a video about the Magic Bullet printhead cleaner and although it looked too good to be true if it would save my favorite Epson printer I wanted to try it. On top of that, I have tons of ink that I stockpile and I just hate wasting it. Armed with a full roll of paper towels, a set of magic bullets, a headlamp, reading glasses, and some medical gloves (the set comes with gloves, but I wanted better), I set about cleaning my printer. First task, figure out where the hell I'm supposed to connect these syringe tubes. I could not move the print head as shown in the video. So I pulled out the cartridges, closed the door and gently pushed the printhead in. I really didn't want to break it. I love this printer. I folded the paper towel and pushed the printhead back like in the video. So I thought. He opened the door, filled the syringe with 2ml and squeezed the purple one first. It took some pressure to get the first ml in, then I left it on for half an hour as directed. Yellow was next. Then why not blue and black. Thank god I had two syringes so I could apply two colors at the same time. When I was done, I moved the print head to get the paper towel out and found that it wasn't under the print head during the cleaning. I had a mess on my hands but luckily I was wearing gloves. I cleaned up the excess ink and was excited to try out my printer! I printed the head cleaner as suggested and started printing my daughter's photo. Task 2. Well, magenta worked. She came out all red. I return to the printer, hardened by the knowledge that I actually did get magenta to print! On the second pass, the instructions say to draw some ink into the syringe and push it back. Back and forth. back and forth. I did, and this time one of the hoses on the syringes fell off. Another mess, but it wasn't that bad. Did a back and forth for all the colors and again the paper towel wasn't under the print head. If there's a secret, I want someone to tell me. Cleaned up the mess, cleaned the print head, printed the image and it's perfect! Just to prove it I ran this little color test page (it's draft mode on plain white paper) but look at the colors. It really works. Before you throw away that printer because the prints are disgusting, try Magic Bullet Printhead Cleaner. A few things I learned during that time. A printhead cleaner on your printer designed to eject ink can make the problem worse. If you have performed more than two head cleaning cycles, stop and follow the Magic Bullet. You're just wasting ink and making a mess.2. You can probably make your own printhead cleaner. I chose Magic Bullet first because it came with the syringes as well as the rest of the set and it was Prime so it arrived quickly.3. Print regularly. If left alone, the ink on the printhead will dry out. Regular printing ensures trouble-free operation.4. Wear a headlamp or use a flashlight. It's dark inside.5. Don't forget plenty of paper towels and gloves. Thanks magic ball! A good thing.
