When I first received this product I was impressed with the workmanship. The braking mechanism was solidly built and the overall weight/feel of the entire device was solid as well. After some trial and error on how high to fill the tray, allowing water to flow to the bottom of the tray before pulling the release lever, etc., I was happy with the tray's functionality (although don't expect pretty cubes). , you'll definitely get a mix of decent dice and broken dice - but ice is ice, right?). Unfortunately, after only 1.5 months of use (0.5 longer than could be returned) I noticed that the ice cubes were starting to taste metallic. The tray was only washed once with Dawn dish soap before it was first used, and nothing has touched the tray since then but filtered cube-making water. I have no idea why a stainless steel product would impart a metallic flavor to ice cream when it was essentially brand new and hadn't been exposed to anything that would tarnish/ruin the surface in any way. Since I mostly use ice water cubes, the bowl is practically useless as the metallic taste completely falsifies the taste of the water. Big disappointment because I thought I would love this item. :/
