Will not catch on door hardware or locks

Fits perfectly in the door as a mail slot. I didn't like the color, I preferred bronze or even black, but it's no longer available. I didn't have a lot of choice due to the size of my opening and basically had to buy this one. The problem is that I live in Florida and since it doesn't close properly, the air conditioner keeps leaking and increasing my electric bill. Aside from never closing, it works well and has a nice simple design (except for the tacky aluminum paint).
