I use small black elastics for braiding hair. The best rubber bands I have ever found are the Proclaim Super Stretch rubber bands. Comparing Vinnus elastics to other brands of elastics, they are certainly better than those found at a weaving mill or discount store (DG, FD.), but they are inferior to Proclaim. Pros: They have decent stretch, although not as much as the Proclaim. The band sizes are the same. Some other rubber band manufacturers include four different sizes in one pack. It's a pain, I don't have time for this. The container has a screw cap. I can't count the number of times I've dropped a pack of 450 Proclaim tapes and the lid came off and I had to play the game with 400 tapes on. Cons: They're not that flexible. like the Proclaim strips, although they stretch well. They are difficult to break. This might be the pro for you. For me, this is a downside - I use them to start or end braids, then break them to remove when the hair grows back or after sealing water. The natural oils in the scalp can break down the rubber and make it easier to break (this happens with many rubber bands), but if they don't they will be very difficult to remove.) Cost breakdown for rubber bands $0.60 each 100 (for Bath 450) at the time of writing this 4/15/22 at Red Beauty Supply. They cost $0.70 for 100, making them slightly more expensive than Proclaim tapes. If you want slightly less stretchy straps and a handy screw-top hard case, it's worth an extra penny per 100.
