Review on πŸ“Ά D-Link DIR-860L: High-Speed IEEE 802.11ac Wireless Router by Will Anderson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Worth every penny, especially since I'm replacing my horrible ISP's lease. Lots of features, no problems.

Pros: Great value, reliable, super fast, easy setup, GREAT interface and pays for itself in combination with the modem which I also bought in less than a year. I think it runs cooler than almost any other modem or router I've ever used. I also like the fact that DD-WRT supports it, but I'm not sure about Open-WRT as I haven't tested it yet. It doesn't mean it's the router that needs it. Built-in firmware supports almost all of its functions. I like easily switchable guest networks that don't forget their SSID/passwords when I turn them off. When I said it's worth it, it's because I bought it along with this one: TP-LINK DOCSIS 3.0 (8x4) High Speed Cable Modem (TC-7610-E) - Handy Bundle To bills for a Get rid of combo modem/router Comcast. away, the signal strength is greater. This was a big problem for me as I live in an apartment. I love that you can set it up to control your network over the internet. Disadvantages: dust magnet? That's all. The finish attracts more dust than other devices I've owned and the finish is rough, shiny plastic. It's even worth deducting a star for that, because it still looks pretty good and doesn't have that glossy mid-2000s look. Plastic items are fine. If you are using more than 4 ethernet ports (not counting modem) you will either have to spend a bit more on a switch or buy something more expensive. I didn't update it when I bought it, but it was very easy to update (there's a tab in the firmware web interface, it's just like updating an iOS or Android smartphone, only faster) and I am I'm pretty sure you wouldn't worry about that. Conclusion: Despite the low price, it still has many features and works great. Has fully met my expectations.
