Melted on first use

Whilst I take full responsibility for this I believe this is a meat thermometer used for cooking at high temperatures *must mean that Product is made of materials that can withstand such temperatures. Unfortunately, it's cheap plastic. The thermometer has a nice compact design which I really like on.Practical The display is easy to read although it seems to be counting slowly (tenths of a degree when you know it's very hot). I don't have time for this so I opened the measuring stick at an angle and stuck the end into some chicken I was cooking and I put the end on the stove. The end where the probe connects to the thermometer melted FAST. About 4 minutes maximum. So now it doesn't close. Which - guess what - means it won't turn off. I literally took it out of the box to use on this chicken. Since I've used it exactly once and it's still working perfectly, I just took out the battery to turn it off. Even though I fully admit that using it this way was my own stupid mistake, what do you think? use him? Do you pop it out and in a few times, poke extra holes in the meat you're cooking and waste those precious juices? You can also just avoid the whole ordeal and slice it open to test. It comes with extra batteries which was a pleasant surprise. I will use it until I get tired of removing the battery every time, but I wouldn't buy it again.
