Open sensor, switch on, close sensor: It couldn't be simpler. There are no buttons to hold down for 5 seconds or anything. The large display shows the temperature and stays on. The hold, min, and max buttons, display backlight, and temperature dial are conveniently located on the front and well labeled, but I rarely use them because I don't use them. I can read the temperature in 0-3 seconds in almost any light. The temperature guide for the meat is clearly printed on the handle. Magnets in the handle allow it to be attached to the fridge or grill. I use this thermometer often to measure air temp, pool temp, reverse grilled meats, and outlet water in the pot of my bread maker. I have several thermometers from other brands, but Boucher Daniel's has become my favorite thermometer.
