1. I have regular solid oak cabinets and on my 1st child I added a similar screw latch. After she grew up, we took her off. Now I have 1 year so we have this to try. I only put them on the doors under the sink (where all the cleaning supplies are). I have very standard closets and can barely open the door far enough to get my finger in and push on it. (I'm a skinny guy too. LOL) 2nd - My 1 year old pulled it after the 3rd day and it popped right up. I've cleaned the cabinets and followed all the installation instructions and they can't handle the stress of a one year old. Luckily we were in the kitchen with her when it happened.
