The brushed aluminum finish was disappointing - at first - it was a bit oxidized which is how you liked it - then after some use - now with some hand oil - the finish felt really rough. It's a bit of a problem at the moment - as far as connecting the Snowball - and using it - I'm very happy with it. There's a certain feeling β you have to be very up close and personal β with the Blue Snowball. There is sooo much background noise around us - cars, people, sirens, dogs, children from the schoolyard, more dogs and people - airplanes and much more. Guys - that's why you just need a cardioid to record any vocal parts. The Snowball is indeed a true cardioid - for this particular mic - the sweet spot is right in the head - within 3-4 inches of the mic - for effectively capturing vocal patterns - for what I do too - that's no deal Breaker - You make you feel like Mike Ness from Social Distortion. It's nice to have 3 different settings - (another version - Snowball iCE - doesn't have this feature) #1 - Boss - again to eliminate huge amounts of annoying white noise and background noise. Feeling good now - low signal in Audacity and Sony Acid - compared to my old mic setup - be sure to add a pop filter - it becomes a must at this point. Build quality is pretty good - mounting options depend on having an adapter in a regular mic holder - Snowball tends to be stable once placed - however I think the Blue Ringer Shockmount could be a future upgrade - it needs to just in front of your face to be effective - Maybe because it also has built in options for use with guitars and other musical instruments/amplifiers - (Setting #2) The last setting is the third setting - for a more omnidirectional feel. Overall - I have to say it's a good mic for the price - with noticeable signal quality, especially if you're using a cheap mic.
