The tools are good. Tapes are terrible

First off, the tools that come with it are good. I'm no supercomputer tech, but they seemed good enough for the average handyman. I'm glad I have a set of Torx screwdrivers for my tool bag. Adhesive strips, however, were a different story. There were two main problems with tape; fit and glue. I bought this kit for a 2017 27" iMac. One of the stripes at the top of the screen didn't exactly match some of the contours of the area. Nothing bad, but a feeling of neglect. The fit was that the stripe was correct was long.I had to cut the strip to the correct length to ensure the seam was on the thicker part of the strip for maximum hold.Again, not the end of the world as I am still able to retain all of the original adhesive surfaces to apply and cover the screen. I was just hoping for a better and cleaner application. After about three weeks of use, I was working at the computer when all of a sudden the top of the screen gave and peeled off, making this sticky, wet sound that the tape (or in in this case glue) does when it's released. God, mine too. Anyway, I turned the screen back on and got on with my work. Well, on A few days later, I walk into my office and am horrified to find that my screen is completely detached and lying face down on the keyboard. Fearing a broken screen, I carefully picked it up and turned it over. Luckily the screen wasn't damaged. No scratch. No nicknames, nothing. My next thoughts went to the two ribbon cables connecting it to the computer. I was afraid they would be ripped out, but after inspection there was no damage. Wow! I would be very upset if they were torn down. When I went to reattach the screen, I noticed that I wasn't entirely free of damage. At both cable connection points, the parts that hold the cable securely have been damaged. I was still able to connect the cables properly, as there were no contact problems. So until I get new adhesive strips from another brand I will use 4 small packing strips to make sure the screen stays attached. Not the most professional setup, but it should hold up. Finally, can I recommend this product? Fur. I'm very happy I didn't suffer any significant damage, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be scared if I had to use these strips again.

Pros
  • Includes the tapes needed to properly reattach a 2012 or newer iMac 21.5" or 27" screen
Cons
  • No
