It's very soft but only works on one side in less than a week. They say the plug has to face a certain direction, so it's against the "guidelines for safe use" to turn it over so that the side of the bed I sleep on gets hot. My dog doesn't like his side of the bed getting hot so I had to either switch the side I sleep on and throw it out or turn it over and use it anyway. I flashed it and it works perfectly. The light weight is probably due to the thinness of the heating coils, but strength has been sacrificed. I'd be scared, but it's in the washing machine
