Because I rinsed it before use. I looked at the bottom and noticed it was marked with the number 7. Just because the packaging says BPA-FREE doesn't mean it is. If it had the "PLA" label under the number 7, it would be safe to use. Do your research folks. Unfortunately, this was incorrectly advertised.
