Displayport is video output only
This cable works well as a displayport video output (ie connected to a video source) when HDMI is connected to the display for video input. It's only one-way compatible, so you can't connect an HDMI port to a video source that has its DisplayPort connector connected to a secondary display. FYI I learned the hard way trying this cable for my laptop and external display setup.
