If you're looking for a similar replacement for the typical commercial hardboard used by most artists, then this isn't it. However, if you're looking for something cheap, disposable, and not very precisely cut (most have a half-inch offset and some have slightly angled cuts), this might work. I use these boards to attach watercolor paper with rubber glue, which I then remove and reuse. Ampersand boards are heavier, stronger and cut well. They are light, rather porous and imprecisely carved. Great for practice or as a disposable item, but I would never use them for anything I intend to sell. I'll probably stick with the more expensive ampersand for my paper binding in the future, but use it as a face cover to protect my art. In addition, they are individually wrapped. That's a big plus!
