I bought this vacuum from Walmart yesterday for $156 and have vacuumed my entire house (about 1300 square feet). This vacuum remained strong while the entire house was being cleaned. It was easy to change the carpet height (from low to high when changing rooms or onto carpets). There's also a foot switch to switch between carpet and hardwood floors - I switched it to clear tile and it worked really well. My son always eats Cheerios and Froot Loops so I tried to suck them up instead of picking them up. The flakes were picked up and not crispy or spat out of the vacuum. The suction power is strong enough to pick up cat hair that silently hides on the carpet and is pushed into the carpet. Our cat almost never seems to shed (we think he's half Persian so he has a fine coat). The vacuum cleaner collected all the hairs from the carpet that we didn't even suspect existed. Our cat loves to lie on the blanket that we put on the sofa cushions for him. Instead of washing the comforter and getting hairballs, I decided to vacuum the comforter with hand tools. I tried using a upholstery tool (the one with the three red spots) and it didn't suck up the hair. The suction from the hose was very strong, but this tool only scraped hairs to snag on one of the "flaps". The turbo tool doesn't have bristles for scraping and picking up pet hair, but the plastic whisk brush inside does pick up hair. He just didn't suck his hair. We tried using both tools on the Couch itself and encountered the same issues. The tools just didn't pick up the hair, so I don't recommend using tools unless you need to clean baseboards with a grout tool (it works really well!). The filters in this vacuum cleaner are very easy to clean. Also. The cyclone filters inside are easy to clean. By simply clicking the button, you open the floor and you can easily empty it. Next, you can disassemble the filter and rinse it clean. Once you have cleaned the cyclone filter, it is very easy to assemble it after drying. The washable filter is also easy to clean - it only takes 24-48 hours for it to dry completely before you replace it, so that's another minus. But if your house isn't too dirty all the time, that's not too much of a problem - just remember to change the filter before you next vacuum, that's all you need. I will always check the filters after every vacuum to make sure it's running at peak performance. Here are my pros and cons as of 4/13/14: Pros: 1. Amazing 40ft cable length2. The suction power is very strong at the moment3. Filter and whisk are easy to clean4. 7 floor height adjustments, as well as carpet and parquet adjustment Disadvantages: 1. Upholstery tools are not suitable for removing pet hair2. There are many parts to disassemble the cyclone filter for cleaning. Updates are written every few months. UPDATE 7/9/14: A few months ago I cleaned the impact brush in the vacuum cleaner. To do this it was necessary to remove the rubber strap from the brush and the metal pin inside. As soon as I took it off and put it back on, my vacuum cleaner started making a strange noise - it sounded like banging and banging. I noticed that one end of the rubber band that went around the metal pin on the back was not centered on the part of the brush it sits on. It was like it was constantly sliding sideways and not fully rotating the brush. I disassembled the whipping brush and belt and found that the belt was too stretched. I've waited for the vacuum to cool before cleaning the whipping brush, but the rubber can still be very warm, causing it to overstretch. Had to buy a new rubber strap from Revain - I was able to get 2 packs for the price of 1 delivered without sipping from the Hoover website. After receiving and putting it on, the vacuum still works great and there were no issues with the belt. We have used this vacuum to clean tiles and carpets and it is very easy to move around. The suction is still very strong, but after each use I empty the container and clean the filters. One of the most important things about owning a vacuum cleaner is proper cleaning. I strongly recommend the following: Once a month or two, I disassemble the entire filter, including the casing around the multi-cyclone filter inside. I wash each piece thoroughly and carefully reassemble it once it's completely dry. No problems so far and everything works smoothly. It's a lot of work, but if you make an effort, this vacuum will last for years. As for the pet attachments, nothing has improved. I rarely use them anymore because they don't pick up our cat's fine hair. Most vacuums I've had have failed quickly - within a few months - so I'm still very impressed with this one. When changing from carpet to tile or vice versa, it's important to remember to press the pedal on the left side of the vacuum cleaner to switch from "CARPET" to "HARDWOOD" and turn the dial on the Set the front to "LOW CARPET". If your tile/parquet floor is quite messy with hair or rope, leave the setting on "CARPETโ to spin the stirring brush to catch it. If your floor has crumbs or even dirt, turn it into solid wood so you don't throw it back. It seems like there are different steps to vacuuming different types of floors or furniture, but if you remember to do it every time, it becomes a habit. and won't seem like such pain every time. If you switch from cleaning the floor to using the hose nozzles, there is a dial on the left that you need to use to switch from "FLOOR" to "TOOLS" or vice versa. I forgot about this a couple of times and started to think the vacuum was falling apart on me. Then I looked around and saw that the dial wasn't in the right position. Another benefit I like about this vacuum is that the end of the hose where you attach the attachments is not connected to the vacuum's suction system. The last few vacuums I had had both ends attached to a suction system. Every time you need to use the hose you have to pull it out and the dust/dirt/hair/dirt will fly to the floor creating another mess that needs cleaning. The end of the nozzle attaches around the vacuum cleaner to the bracket with a clip that locks it in place. Super nice, clean and secluded! Advantages: 1. Large suction power2. Lightweight3. Filtration system with HEPA and air filter4. Reach 40 feet5. Small storage space6. The hose is not connected to the suction system7. Relatively quieter than most vacuum cleaners8. Does not overheat Disadvantages: 1. Many stages to transition floor types2. Bad hose connection 3. Disassembly for thorough cleaning of the cyclone filter (but worth it) UPDATE 02/19/15 This vacuum cleaner still works like new! I make sure to thoroughly clean the whisk of threads, hair or threads. The canister/container is washed thoroughly once a month. Personally, I still believe that this is one of the important factors in extending the life of your vacuum cleaner. As soon as it is half full, it empties. I disassemble the entire canister and remove dirt, dust and hair that is stuck in any part of it. I let it dry outside and then wipe it down - the rag gets dirty even after rinsing so make sure you use a rag to wipe it all down. floor or furniture. The hose mounts are still not overly impressive, but using the hose itself does the trick. I check the air filters and HEPA filters after every use - they are still clean! Either we have a very clean family or there is a problem filtering dust and dirt through them. I can try swapping these filters out and see if there is a difference. Overall, this vacuum has lasted longer than the previous ones - and it's only been around for almost 2 years! Just remember to keep the canister clean and check the filters regularly. UPDATE 10/16/18 Wow! To be perfectly honest, no vacuum has lasted that long for us. I have yet to change the filters (oops) but now they're starting to look a little gray with dirt. I remove the canister once a month (or more often as needed) and flush the outside. This will remove dirt, dust and hair that has accumulated inside. I remove the roller from the front, clean threads or hair, and also rinse. Pros: 1. All of the above Cons: 1. Hose fittings could be better2. The underside of the wheels starts to sag a little with constant use; no signs of breakage or difficulty in pressing
