Dear Microsoft, In the last two years I have looked through 4 of your Sculpt keyboards. The keyboard itself is amazing - great layout, nice key spring. It's even light enough to carry to the office. I'm a writer and editor so the number pad is a blessing. Combine the Sculpt with a laptop stand and I have the ultimate in ergonomics, allowing me to work for over 8 hours without wrist and neck pain. I used to praise Sculpt to everyone I knew, but now I just shake my head. Why? Your keyboard is ridiculously easy to break. Here's your con: The keyboard itself is durable BUT if anything happens to the tiny thumbnail-sized USB receiver then I'm 100% screwed. It's like an Achilles heel, but on a keyboard. How should I know? I now have four Sculpt keyboards, all in excellent condition, all in stock. I cannot use them because the corresponding USB receivers are defective. Receiver #1: Lost in a bag, found a day later, no longer working. Receiver #2: The round mouse fell out of the bag and crashed onto the wooden floor. . The receiver was in the mouse back then and now translates my keystrokes as gibberish. The fall wasn't even hard, it was like falling from 3 feet. Receiver #3: dropped on the floor, another small fall, stopped working. Receiver #4: Keyboard #4, purchased August 3rd. (I know I'm not a good student.) It's now August 30th, less than a month later. The receiver just stopped working for no apparent reason.: ****** I TORN my poor wallet. The Sculpt keyboard could become legendary. You could make me save them, Microsoft, but instead you decided to make me a regular customer in the worst possible way, making me shell out $100 every few months because your flimsy plastic receivers are breaking more than dollar store . Christmas decorations cannot be replaced. All people drop things. Such is the life of everyone who is on the road. At this point, Microsoft, you're smart enough to build something that won't break if dropped onto a wooden floor from 3 feet. Such fragility is unacceptable for your laptops, so why is it acceptable for your devices? Finally, Microsoft, for heaven's sake, why apply the principle of soul mates to your keyboards by making your USB receivers ESSENTIAL? There is *no* *meaning* *anything* that I have to replace my entire keyboard and mouse set because of one tiny broken piece! Please make a durable and *replaceable* USB receiver for your Sculpt keyboards. I ask you. If you're reading this, only buy this keyboard if you: 1) Warbucks Daddy OR 2) don't intend to wrap your USB receiver in cotton and clouds after each use while you hop through life on it. only carpets. Sculpt is a great keyboard, but I'm switching to one I like less because I'm not rich enough to spend $100 every time a flimsy USB receiver breaks. In short, what a shame.
