Did not work as advertised

I purchased the Meater + and I am very disappointed with it. First, you can't explore the menus and get familiar with it until the probe is charged and connected to your phone. The app requires you to agree to their policies which looks like they gather info from your phone and I didn't like that - but you need the app to use the device. If you are concerned about your privacy - try to load the app before you buy the device to see if you will agree to it. I cooked a London Broil with it. When I got down to choosing the type of meat - I had to look up what cut of meat a London Broil is - or you have to have knowledge of what potion of the cow the cut you are cooking comes from. It doesn't have a London Broil selection or many many other types of beef cuts. The meat I buy doesn't have that info on the label - just "London Broil". After setting it up - I put the meat in my broiler as I always do for London Broil. Within a minute or so I started getting warnings that the probe was too hot. It escalated quickly saying I was about to damage the probe - so I moved the meat down a rack in the oven. The temperature went down and I had to cook it on broil from the middle of the oven. The device said medium rare was 135 degrees and medium was 140. I set the temperature to 138 to satisfy both my wife and I. I then went into my family room to watch TV while the meat cooked. The app said it lost contact with the probe, I was maybe 50 feet away. I had to sit in front of the oven while it cooked in order to watch the progress. At 132 degrees it said to take out the meat which I did immediately. Sat it down on the counter to "rest". While it rested the temperature continued to climb till it reached 146. The meat was then overdone with no pink at all - it was ruined. I was going to use it to pan fry some strip steaks but I just used a cheap temperature probe instead. I wasted my money.

Cons
  • Can take up to an hour to fully charge the battery
