This is the perfect size and weight for crafts or small projects. I used to only use a tape measure for sewing things like this, but it's difficult to use both hands to get the tape measure flat enough to get an accurate measurement and stabilize the project. That helped! I also ordered a set of 25ft bands, but the 25ft bands were too big and too heavy for my belt (although I'm a very short person: 5ft 3in, 115lbs). I've used these little 10ft tapes for a few things before and didn't feel like I needed a longer tape - of course that depends on what projects you're using it for. I use mine for sewing, measuring furniture, framing (art/photos), etc.
