I usually have big hands. I bought a large and had to exchange it for an XL. The big one barely got in. XL is almost big enough down to the ring finger. As far as I know someone has a ring finger that is longer than the index finger while someone has the opposite. My ring finger is longer and these gloves are made for people whose ring finger is shorter than their index finger so the ring finger doesn't fit very well but the index finger does. Also, the ring finger is cut less so it fits snugly while the other fingers are fairly loose. My hands get much colder when I tighten my gloves. If they're loose enough to allow air to circulate and my skin not to be constantly touching the fabric, my hands stay warm. So my ring fingers are always cold in these gloves. But they cut the wind well, so they are suitable for 45 degrees and more wind.
