This net is considered a landing net for an aquarium. That would be good for digging up fish and the like, but I'm not sure it'll be useful if you plan on using it to collect gravel. I've been looking for a good net for a turtle tank but it doesn't work for my purposes. This item works well for removing floating debris in the tank, but I mainly use my nets to move small rocks on the bottom of the tank. The net size itself is good but the handle is not fixed so when I try to lift the pebble the telescoping handle just retracts inwards. If I manage to pick up some rocks and try to move them into the tank, the handle just twists and I can't drop the rocks without taking the whole net out of the water and the rocks manually removed from the network. When I have trouble lifting small stones. I assume the same problem will occur if you try to salvage the gravel. If you're just catching fish or debris floating in the tank, this is a good net.
