I may be sloppy, but I have a lot of blobs in my toaster. I clean it all the time. They completely cover the lower removable drip tray. Instead of having to give the drip tray a thorough cleaning once a month, you simply pull them out, wipe them clean, and put them back in. I haven't had a single case of it deteriorating (burned out or impossible to clean) or needing to be replaced!
