I am an MCSE Level 4 Certified Technician and certified on Windows 95. I've been building and repairing computers since 1996. I've had quite a few buggy drivers in my time, but I've never had a PCI card that would really ruin my motherboard! My wife is an artist and I build this modern computer. a few years ago with a dual boot system of XP and Windows 7. She runs Windows XP on all her computers, including the laptops I've built, as most of her art programs only run on XP. Apart from a hardware failure, she never had any problems with her computer. I bought this card because it was PCI and it was XP compatible. Not correct! I created a system restore point and backed up the registry before installing the driver and restarted the system and didn't boot into safe mode or windows? I pulled the card out thinking I could boot into Windows 7 to see if I could look at the XP install and find a driver to get rid of and it loaded both my bootloader and my Windows 7 Installation! I replaced the CMOS battery and pulled everything out of the computer except the XP disk and finally booted it up, but it took an hour for Windows to boot up. It took another hour to get into the control panel and find the driver as I couldn't even get into device manager to identify or uninstall it? By the way, I didn't install the lousy wireless software that came with it. I waited another 2 hours to remove it from the control panel and another hour for it to restart and the computer gets stuck on the boot screen? I checked the BIOS settings to see if there was anything wrong ---- and none of my hard drives showed up? Do I need to take everything apart and debug the motherboard because now it doesn't recognize any of the three hard drives (all new and all different brands) and sometimes only one of the DVD drives? This card costs a lot. I'll have at least 8 hours of work when I'm done with this and most likely a new motherboard. This is the most costly mistake I've ever made buying from a Revain vendor! I strongly recommend Revain to discontinue this card as out of the box it is not compatible with Windows XP or Windows 7. You can't download new or improved drivers to update a junk card that will damage your computer so badly that you can't even download it to load better, more compatible drivers. A lesson learned the hard way. Buyer Warning! Never again! Stick to New Egg, the official computer parts dealer, when in doubt that you are buying a quality card.
