My cat has physical disabilities. We recently learned that this is probably caused by myotonia congenita, a rare disorder of muscle closure. Conveniently, taurine is one of the few drugs being studied for its treatment (not in cats, but the disease occurs in multiple species and involves the same mutations), and of course taurine is very safe in cats (no documented toxicity). We started with her. on supplements (250 mg twice daily) and noticed an improvement in her movements throughout the day. It's not a miracle by any means, but I seriously saw her scratching her ear today, which she normally can't physically do. To this day, and I've had her for almost 5 years, I've never seen her succeed at it (she tried but never made it). We chop it up and put it on their wet food. It won't be difficult for her to eat it. I'll probably start giving some to my other cats as a preventative supplement.
