There is a trick to keeping the thread taut.
Much more convenient than hand flossing. I bought the child size as I have a small mouth. I've found that to keep the thread taut, I have to use my finger or thumb on the shackle pieces to maintain constant rotational pressure on the shackles relative to the handle. Then it works very well. When it wears out, I'll buy another one.
