We bought this for our 5 year old son. He always builds things and then describes how they work. It was the cheapest gift he got, but it was the only thing he played with besides learning how to drive his remote control car for 10 minutes and then getting back to building. He built so many things, fire engines, spiders, a bridge and so on. I was impressed by his creativity and skills. But enough about my son. There are many parts in this set and the parts are made of high quality plastic. My son doesn't like his toys and I've seen him bend the plastic bars a few times but they straighten out. All in all the best Christmas purchase I've had in years.
