Great for thrifty field monitor

I bought this to help with self shots and hoping I would shoot more in general. I was a little apprehensive about buying it because the low price in movies (and life in general) can lead to disappointment and many field monitors I've seen cost 5x or more than this model. However, if you find that you're not getting professional quality at this price point, this is still a good monitor. It's very sharp, and when I set the focus assist to a low level, I worry a lot less (especially when shooting myself!). The menus are a little clunky and the buttons don't seem the most reliable, but for what I do it's not that heavy. It's lightweight, which is a real plus when setting up, but in the studio I just mount it on a spare stand where I can see it. I've tested both the variable voltage power supply and some regular NP-F batteries and it's proven reliable and draws little power. I *didn't* attempt to shoot with it outside in broad daylight. Rated at 450 candles I'm sure it won't be great, but with a lens hood and larger than my Nikon's built-in screen (and I mentioned great focus assist!) it would definitely be an improvement. So keep in mind that this is not a pro thing, but for lighter tasks this is a great device at a pretty low price.
