I like the bite guard and locking mechanism. The modularity of the part also helps in certain situations. For example, last weekend I ran in 17 degrees. The valve froze almost immediately and would not "unlock" and obviously no water was flowing through. But I could take the value, put it between the jacket and shirt for a few minutes and thaw. Then I put it back on, wiggled the hose a bit and was able to drink again. From then on, I just carried the valve in my pocket when I wasn't drinking while it was still below freezing outside.
