Installed battery died after less than a dozen uses which didn't bother me as it came with an extra battery. (seems to be a fairly common experience reading other reviews). However it never worked with a second battery (and yes it was installed correctly - even read the instructions and then asked my electrician neighbor to try it). We checked the second battery and it was fully charged, so we know it's not a battery. As at least one other reviewer has mentioned, the battery compartment is junk and doesn't always need to make proper contact (the plastic ring surrounding it to ensure the door closes properly is a joke too). We tried removing and reinserting the battery many times before giving up. Since the return period was long overdue and I don't remember paying much for it, I figured you get what you pay for. I went back to my manual calipers for a while and only recently decided to buy a better digital caliper. This turned out to be one of the best reviews - when I realized I hadn't bought the cheapest on the market and others reporting similar problems caused me to leave this review. Most people don't seem to have a problem, which is why I gave it two stars. But if I wanted to play roulette for reliability, I would choose the cheaper one.
