I use this remote shutter release when I put my Olympus on a tripod with a telephoto lens to avoid camera movement when I press the shutter button. The cable, which some criticized as too short, is just right for this. A longer one would require rolling it up or something and making it more difficult to carry. I used to use an Opteka remote that failed after a while, apparently following the connector that plugs into the camera. The Olympus product seems to be of higher quality (as it should be, 6-8 times more expensive!). In contrast to the Opteka, the contact springs are gold-plated and the internal structure looks better. The Olympus remote control has a design flaw. The cord exits at the end farthest from the trigger. If you hang the remote on a tripod or camera and don't like pressing the shutter button with your pinky, you'll find it upside down. Since I prefer to use my thumb or forefinger, I attached a lanyard to the button of the device so I can hang it right side up.
