Review on Black Frost King R538H Foam by Vincent Poolaw

Good for filling in gaps but make sure you get the right size

I bought this for my apartment because my apartment door leading to the hallway had a lot of space between the door and the door frame. In fact, with the door closed, you could clearly see the outline of light coming from the hall. This resulted in a lot of noise coming from the audience as well, so I looked for ways to fix that. This foam tape filled in the gaps and the audio was reduced a bit (now it sounds muffled instead of loud and clear). I did NOT buy it as weather protection so I can't comment on that. The application is pretty simple. You remove the protective film from the tape and then stick it on the desired surface. The backing is difficult to remove and will take a few tries to ensure you're not actually peeling the foam from the tape and not the tape from the backing. The reason I gave this 4 stars is that with constant friction the tape tends to come loose. I bought this with the expectation that it would compress easily into the gaps when I closed the door (thus providing a better "seal"). This works great for extra large gaps in my doorway. However, I ended up buying Frost King L342BH 1/4" PU Foam Tape Brown to fill 1/4" and smaller gaps because after a week or two that 1/2" tape just wore out completely Together both sizes of tape fill in gaps well. You can remove the tape. If you peel it off slowly it won't peel the paint off, but slowly (I didn't do this in one area and it took off a small strip). leaves a slightly sticky residue that I think can be removed with normal household methods. It's also not very attractive (dark gray and tan along my door frame) but it works. This size (1/2") seems only available in gray too If they offered a white version (like they do for 1/4 inch) I'd probably buy it instead.

Pros
  • Weatherproof
Cons
  • Not sure
