The thread won't stick to the tree which was my biggest concern. Individual slots can hold an entire skein of yarn if you organize them this way. Personally, I only place partially used themes in the organizer. I used to use paper cards to hold the thread that was partially used. My current project has 26 colors, this organizer can hold up to 32 colors. However, it's a bit larger than I expected - about 8 x 5 inches.
