Well done weight lifters! Why such a cheap pen?

I don't think you can have too many tools when you have a handyman husband, farm equipment and vehicles that need maintenance that are always adding to your list of construction projects. For years my husband made do with his elderly father's short bottle cutter; Two years ago, however, his main seal began leaking so badly that he no longer trusted him. Summer is almost here, he wanted another one and we decided to try this one. As for its lifting capacity, it could probably lift 20 tons; In fact, my husband is sure he could muster enough force to crack the basement concrete floor if you re-level the fully loaded main beam and not put a couple 2x10's underneath to spread the weight. The extension screw rotates smoothly and you can adjust it to remove excess head height with one hand. If he ever needed oil, it looks like doing so would be easy. What we can't understand is why they put a pathetic excuse for a crank on such a well-made bottle jack. It's a two-piece type, which isn't uncommon, but each piece is about 7 inches long, so there's not much leverage or reach. Another thing is that the handle works with a T-pin on the valve, but it's much more than that. bigger than a pin, so there's *huge* play when adjusting the valve. This can become a real problem , when you try to open the valve gently to slowly lower the jack so that the lift gradually absorbs the load.It worried my husband what he did with a piece of steel pipe for his own handle. Handle aside, this is a really great jack that he thinks should last a few decades. I recommend everything except the pen.
