I bought this model - the 2018 model is different from the old version - because I temporarily lost my 2014 model. Like other reviewers, I note that the new model doesn't have a convenient, durable black zippered carry case. It's also a smaller device than the older model, which can be a plus, but it costs $20 more and doesn't have as many wall centering/marking accessories as the older device. The older model runs on a 9V battery, the new one uses two AA batteries. The new model has a weaker red laser than the old model, which could be the reason for the lower battery performance. And the new model has a digital dial instead of a flashing indicator light to show the bolt's position. Because of the difference in price, the old model was much more profitable, while the new model was a disappointment. For me, the brighter red laser in the old model makes a difference when marking walls when working in a room with sunlight or floodlights, and the old model's durable carrying case will hold the kit up well for many years.
