Better than a knife, but far from perfect
Definitely better than a chestnut knife, but I found the thinner ones don't seem to cut, and it's not always that easy, a chestnut to cut from the blade. The little piece of plastic hidden in the handle does a great job of peeling the skin off, especially the brown bottom layer. We have found that it is best to soak the chestnuts first and then open them as hot as possible.
