Review on πŸ”₯ Kool Kovers: Black Cleat Covers for Shimano SPD-SL Pedal Systems - Enhanced Performance and Protection by Dushawn Walker

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Requires Spikes SPD-SL for protection

I really like them, but there is one small complaint (see below). I bought new Shimano SPD-SL cleats in July, I had them for about 3 months before the right hand gap (i.e. Yellow/Blue/Red Cleat Wear Indicator) on the right cleat broke while walking in a gravel parking lot. After the pin broke, cleat wear increased exponentially until the stone in the groove on the back of the cleat buckled, causing the cleat to struggle to secure onto the pedals. My wife's boots also lost a screw because we believe they walked in the same areas. I needed a screw and spike so I bought a new set of spikes. When I bought Revain's boots, Revain assumed other customers were also buying this product, so I figured, who cares, I'll raise the price (I paid $15) and if it doesn't work, I'm not for it Kind of money if it works I'll extend the life of my boots. I have to say they are pretty good. After wearing them for a month with new cleats, the cleats themselves look slightly worn despite the fact that I've ridden at least 400 miles with the cleats and have ridden them many times (i.e. many times from the front door to the garage and back again have gone). many times). I take the covers off right before getting on the bike and put them back on almost immediately after getting off the bike. They're easy to slip on and off even with gloves, thanks largely to the tag on the back of the cleat, but while they're easy to take off, they're fairly secure on the cleat. It also gives every step I take a nice rubbery feel when walking in cleated boots, and they make less noise than cleated boots (i.e. my only complaint is that the bolt seems to have notches for the struts/wear indicators. I'm Not sure why this is and given my previous issue (strut break) I'm wondering if the covers protect my struts from walking on gravel or uneven surfaces, in any case the covers protect my cleats from rocks that break the shape the lugs flex, which is what happened, so I'm not sure if it matters much.
