I have bought magnetic tins before, they work great; However, glass containers have a number of advantages. 1) easier to open. Can lids can be difficult to remove and can come loose, so there's a risk of accidental spills when you finally pull them off. 2) It's easier to see the contents since it's glass instead of limited lightweight jars, and 3) the jar is larger so I can move all the contents from the standard sized spice jar into the magnetic jar. One final note: they don't really take up any more wall space, but they are taller (or deeper) so you'll need to watch out for the gap lest you risk knocking them off (they're glass).
