Unfortunately, this is going back. I just had too many issues with it. In fact, for something as simple as a USB scanner, which should be plug and play and should just work, that's an understatement.Pros:Very quiet, significantly better than my old Canon.Fast scans (but somewhat slow overall, see cons). No transportation lock, so no possibility of damaging scanner due to forgetting to lock it.Kickstand is a neat idea. I personally don't have much use for it, but may in the future and it's a nice touch.Cons:Couldn't get the buttons to work.Took multiple installs/uninstalls/reboots to get working, then it stopped working again. Probably the most unreliable USB device I've ever used.Auto detection/cropping doesn't work very well at all, requiring it to be manually done with greatly slows down the process.I had some problems doing a couple scans where it didn't seem to scan all the way to the edges. Also, at least once it took a long time (probably about a minute) to turn on after plugging it in. I was going to test these issues further but, as mentioned above, it stopped working AGAIN, and I really don't feel like fighting with it anymore. My Canon which I've had for years works every single time without issue.Hinge design isn't quite as good as Canon's. I'm not sure, but I don't think it opens as far/wide, and it definitely doesn't operate as smoothly/intuitively.No OCR function in included software. Trying to use 3rd party OCR software was frustrating as different scan settings would result in different levels of success in using the software, despite the scans appearing similar. Even multiple scans with the same settings would give varying results. This means the scans are different every time even when nothing is changed. Furthermore, while the software I was using is free and not professional grade, and it's hard to say how much of the variation was due to the scanner and how much was due to the scanner, I would rather just have good OCR functionality built into the scanner software to improve the quality and reliability and decrease the amount of time and effort required to produce searchable scans. While the use of micro USB is nice so it can share cables, for something like this where it doesn't need to be smaller and where the smaller, more fragile micro USB connector is likely to either break or at least not last as long as a mini or B connector, and since you're almost certainly going to have a cable dedicated to it, I'd rather they didn't use it. Micro is simply a bad choice for something like this. There's a small notch on the back of the lid with no apparent function. I'm not sure if it's a defect or just a strange design choice. Either way, I couldn't find mention of it anywhere which leads me to believe it may be a defect, and at the very least it caused me some concern and several wasted minutes trying to figure it out.Software doesn't minimize to the taskbar, but instead just makes the windows as small as they can possibly be and moves them to the bottom-left corner of the desktop (seriously Epson?!).I gave it 2 stars simply because if it had worked properly, it would at least be decent, as it is fast and quiet. But even then, it would only be 3.5-4 stars based on what I've seen. So 2 stars is probably generous. Time to try the Canon.
