Review on Swissmar Borner V Prep Mandoline V 5000 by Rachel Smith

excellent mandolin - mandolins

I originally bought a Swissmar Borner V-Prep Mandolin V-5000 to chop tomatoes, apples and persimmons for a food dehydrator. The product is made of thick plastic with different panels to change the settings. Simple and easy to use, you can make thin or thick slices (no intermediate) or threads with julienne plates. The plates are easy to clean, but you have to be careful when inserting and removing them, the blades are open and sharp. 3 panels make it easy to change settings and perform various actions, but limit the size of your fragments. Even on its thinnest setting, it didn't slice anything as thinly as I had hoped, but it's still a great addition to my kitchen and has many uses. Very good for preparing cucumber salad or thick apple chips. Just be very careful when using the finger guard, no matter what you're cutting, these blades are very sharp and it's surprisingly easy to cut yourself. Our version that we bought has a box that you put the mandolin in and the pieces fall in. It also creates a stable base which I find very useful. If they came out with a thinner cut I would buy them in a heartbeat. I'm already planning on buying a few more of these as gifts as I think they'll make a great addition to the kitchen and the model in the box has a tight fitting lid to keep all the pieces together and you don't accidentally cut yourself.
