I set it up, called Time Warner to give them the MAC address and it worked right away! I connected it to a D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N Router, which I and many other people have had horrible problems with before, and as soon as I plugged it in, the wireless network worked too. I bought this modem. To replace a crappy no-name modem, Time Warner informed me that it simply won't share an internet connection, no matter what router or hub it's connected to. I would advise anyone having trouble connecting a D-Link router to their modem to try this modem as they have no trouble communicating with each other. UPDATE: MAY 2012 Two weeks after I started using this modem, ours happened to be. We soon found that you can usually restore it by resetting this modem, which unfortunately requires you to walk around the apartment unplugging and reconnecting the power supply to that modem. We had to do this at least once every few days, sometimes every few hours. Time Warner's technicians came to us several times to inspect things, but they never found anything wrong. Back then, we blamed TWC for our internet access problems. Last year I moved to another place and we got internet access from TWC again. This time the technician hooked up our router to the generic modem supplied by TWC and everything worked right away. No router issues, no internet access issues, no disconnects. In the year that we lived in our new apartment with our new universal modem, the internet connection went down once. Compare that to dying on average once a day! I bought this modem used, so I can't comment on the quality of the new device. I also can't rule out that the root of the problem is poor TWC maintenance in our old apartment, although the service staff assure me that's not the case. This modem goes in the trash.
