I was trying to get my snowblower fixed for next year's season. I did a little research and found that a Tecumseh starter repair kit is cheaper than buying a new starter. With a little searching, you can easily find a few videos to see what's related to the repair. Nothing complicated for the average mechanic. The hardest part will be removing the special ring at the end. My son helped me remove it. It held the special washer/retainer while I used external snap ring pliers to stretch the ring. Then he inserted a small screwdriver between ring and shaft. Then he pushed lightly and the ring came off after about a minute of work. I removed the old parts and installed the new ones. The videos state that grease should not be applied to the shaft due to cold weather use and grease can cause the shaft to seize. We put the old ring back on the shaft as it has already spread enough to be removed. I used a set of spline pliers to squeeze it together and then installed it on the snow thrower. Starts up immediately like new. The only difference between the original and the kit - the gear from the kit - is the length of the teeth. The kit is a little shorter. Although I don't think it will be a problem. Hope that helps! Thanks very much! βππ
