I purchased this unit on the recommendation of an electrical engineer. Many campgrounds, particularly older and/or state campgrounds, have electrical sockets set up incorrectly - hot/neutral reversed, broken ground, etc. To be sure, you need a device that will check for correct polarity, ground, and voltage. This device looks for incorrect or improperly installed utility poles, protecting our trailer electrical system from damage as well as surges or surges that can damage equipment. It also has surge protection. A bulky but necessary device.
