I chose this as a full desktop hub so that when I put my Macbook on the table I can plug in a cable and get started. As a smaller USB-C hub, it's a bit shy of USB-A ports for peripheral reasons, but it always supports my items: wireless mouse, Time Machine hard drive (more on that in a moment), so 'I'm not too concerned. My second monitor is of course connected to a hub and I have power from a wall outlet. Solid build quality and all ports feel solid, and the main cable and Type-C connection feel very sturdy. This port has several features that are cause for concern. First, the hub gets a little warm at times, which I think is due to my MBP drawing 20-85 watts through it. I haven't tested using the hub to simultaneously power the MBP and charge devices, but I suspect it will get hot as it nears the 100W limit. It's not a big problem at the moment, but I know that heat causes every component to break down faster. Second, the hub sometimes turns off when the computer is asleep and leaves all connections idle when I wake the computer. This is fixed by unplugging and plugging the hub back in, but that means the computer doesn't draw power when it's idle, and that means I can't trust connections when I'm remote. The third problem I encountered is that the hub drops all connections when certain devices are plugged in. I plugged in an external hard drive, turned off the display and power, then plugged it back in with the hard drive installed. I'm concerned about connection stability while backing up if I need to do anything else with the hub while it's running. [edit] Well, after a few weeks of using this hub, more problems started appearing. The biggest problem is that the erratic connection I've encountered before isn't just limited to adding or removing new peripherals. An attempt to move files between the computer and the USB flash drive failed when the drive partially lost connection. Other peripherals also have additional connectivity issues: simply reconnecting the hub no longer fixes issues after my computer wakes up. My wireless mouse doesn't work on 2.0 ports and when daisy chained to my wired keyboard, no device connects to any port unless I plug the keyboard alone into port 3.0 and THEN connect the mouse button. The only parts that fit together are the HDMI connector and the bus power supply. amp renders usb peripherals (dvd drives, graphics tablets, etc.) when powered by the macbook pro POOR - some heat builds up - connections drop when certain peripherals are added (stable until i change something) - connection gets lost sometimes inactive when computer goes to sleep - usb2. 0 is only stable for power - USB 3.0 is unstable and inconsistent in terms of peripherals. FINAL THOUGHTS: This hub would definitely benefit from better connection stability. To be honest this provides all the connections I wish were only native on my MBP, if I could just trust it 100% that would be ideal. I would like to change a few more USB-A ports or at least from 2.0 to 3.0. I use an SD reader all the time, but others probably never touch it and can get more out of the USB. In fact, it was so promising, but due to serious shortcomings it turned out to be almost useless. I think it's a pretty good HDMI adapter
