I have installed a UPS/surge protection system in my home office. Given the close proximity of the UPS, my current cable (brand: made by me) was too short to reach the UPS. I have a fairly busy schedule and wasn't in a huge rush to get set up, so I decided to save myself the hassle of making my own cable and order one for just over $5. cable, and after crawling under my desk to remove my previous wrapped cable to install and wrap a new cable, I found that my computer couldn't support a 1.0 Gbps connection and on speeds of 100 Mbit/s would fall behind. Reinstalling the cable temporarily fixes the problem, but after 5 minutes it drops again. Replacing it with my previous cable resulted in the issue being resolved with no issues. Lesson Learned: Save $5 and make your own cable.
