Review on πŸ”ͺ Accusize APKT1604 Carbide Indexable Inserts - High Performance with Carbide 0028 6906 by Jason Camarillo

Revainrating 2 out of 5

It cuts mild steel very well, but a slab is too high.

Pro: I am very surprised by this cutter. On mild steel* I was able to cut 200 miles deep through a full 1/2 inch with my 1 HP Bridgeport with no problem. at 350 rpm. Cut only on a (low) plate. This single insert, which acts as the cutting edge, provides a good surface finish. If you were to use a power feed on a slow feed you would probably get a really good result. After cutting over an inch of material the insert looks like new (see second picture marked with purple pen) * The blank I was working on. was the base of a BXA lathe quick change post which I hammered in to make a T-slot. Cons: But. when the box is one bet higher than the other. So while that one tooth is amazing, none of the other 4 have touched the job yet. If I could figure out what's wrong with the insertion port that would be great. (Edit - it's impossible to change, so I'm returning it). See attached image: On my granite slab you can see that the high bet on the back outperforms all others by several thousand. If you take the low bet off (second picture) it's perfectly flat. So now it's 2/5 stars.

Pros
  • Insert type: APKT. Insert size: 1604.
Cons
  • thin
