Review on SEPTLS504950300 Mitutoyo Pocket Rulers 950 300 by Mario Beckwith

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It's easy to read, but kind of crumpled.

I bought this because of the Mitutoyo name and was expecting a little more than the usual pocket scale. The rule has a matte finish, finely etched with thick lines and numbers, gives no reflections in direct light. As another reviewer mentioned, there is no 1/4 inch mark. The metal is slightly springy, lightweight and some reviewers called it "thin". A kid could turn this thing into a pretzel, and I have no doubt that in a work environment you need to straighten it all the time. The ruler is engraved with the word "hardened" but compared to another pocket ruler I own that is also made in the USA, the Mitutoyo is lighter and less stiff. serves its purpose, but needs to be loosened a bit, when moving with one hand I bend the ruler and have to straighten it. , which is standard on pocket rulers, is said to allow you to mark on both sides of the ruler and keep the lines exactly 1/2 inch apart. I'm not sure who uses it, but clearly they are. I checked mine and with a ballpoint pen the lines were 34/64 inches apart. With a slightly blunted pencil they were just over 32/64 inches, I would call that 65/128 inches. For freshly ground #2, the lines were 31/64 inches apart. So close, I think, without knowing the exact destination. So for what I paid it's worth owning. I wanted a 6 inch ruler + gauge for my desk and it will serve me well. But is it better than average? No, the only difference to my other pocket rulers is the matte finish.

Pros
  • One end is rounded for safety
Cons
  • No performance
