I like these caps more than others for several reasons: They don't add height to the bottle like a cork or other caps do, so the bottle can be stored in the fridge with ease. Really prevents spills when the bottle is stored on its side. Before using the closures it is recommended to remove all foil from the top of the wine bottle. It hurts a little, but it keeps sharp bits from damaging the seal. I make sure the top inch or so is clean and that seems to be enough to hold the print. The wine stays fresh to me, but we usually empty the bottle the next day. However, if the stopper does not leak when the bottle is stored horizontally, corks will help keep the wine fresh. I would not recommend storing leftover champagne in a horizontal position. Carbonation is untrustworthy in my opinion.
