I've been using it for my two cats for four years. Previously used other brands. I think this one is better. Yes, over time it crumbles into a powder and little more than clay marks. This is good: I put the powder particles on the edges of the pan where my cats like to urinate. Then I cover it with 1/2 inch fresh quart. This will prevent it from sticking to their paws. It also helps to use every liter. I scoop and clean their swamp daily. .So nothing is wasted. Where clay is very undesirable. It holds and pushes out moisture as it 'dries', creating a pooling effect that doesn't happen with this liter. I tried the multiple cat version and I didn't like it, the smell of cigarette smoke, non-smoker and allergic to an odor that triggers asthma attacks, the excretion ordinance works fine as long as your cat isn't as lazy as one of mine about her poop not covered.
