I wanted helical gears and something I could move easily. I used the clip that came with it and attached it to the bookshelf and it's sturdy. I lubricated the gears and friction points with a 3M dry lube spray, silicone would work too, it made rotation smoother and easier. I spin the pencil about half a turn while sharpening and it wears away the wood evenly on all sides, forming a very sharp point that breaks off unless gently rubbed first. highlighted.
